JANA PRAGATI UDYOG

Rural India, mostly, is still shrouded in confusion and fear regarding the world of gadgets and internet. Our dream of digital literacy cannot be achieved unless we make an effort to change this reality. So, we, at Advaita Bodhi have Jana Pragati Udyog (JPU) or Digital Labs.

AN OPEN SPACE TO 'CREATE'

Our community based JPUs provide the masses with a space of their own to make themselves comfortable with computers and gadgets and receive expert advice on matters ranging from financial investments to reading an e-book. Run by the women of the marginalized communities, the aim of these digital hubs is to create digitally literate, information empowered, equitable communities across Bengal initially and then gradually spread across India.

To cater to the information starved corners of the country, our JPUs believe in providing unrestricted digital access to knowledge along with network support and provisions of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). The JPUs are a major step taken by Advaita Bodhi towards skill development and capacity building and hence they are a crucial vehicle in achieving the visions of Digital India.

ROLE OF JPUs

The functions of these JPU’s are not restricted to mere digital inclusion. They act as a community interface in providing multifarious services like information on education, healthcare, e-learning, job opportunities and many more. The JPUs also run workshops on healthcare, feminine hygiene for adolescent girls, and raise awareness about government schemes, cyber security, road safety and local heritage.

OUR PILLARS OF STRENGTH

  • To provide equal digital access through digital connectivity.

  • To empower the information deprived communities with digital information and information services.

  • To promote diversity, inclusivity and sustainability.

  • To protect the environment and local heritage and culture.

  • To ensure digital inclusion of the information starved remote and rural communities.

  • To train these people with knowledge and to equip them with digital and connectivity tools and resources.
